...but please remember to arrive well-prepared for our trip to Mount Rainier tomorrow (May 2nd)! You should arrive to school at the normal time. We will depart from NOVA at 8:30 AM, and plan to return around 6:00 PM (depending on traffic). You can use the following guidelines for what to bring:

• Waterproof pants & jacket (rain gear is fine)
• Sturdy (preferably waterproof) boots
• Non-cotton socks
• Layers of non-cotton clothes (cotton holds moisture and makes you cold)
• Warm hat
• Gloves or mittens
• Water
• Big snack and sack lunch
• Sunglasses & sunscreen
• A change of clothes and shoes for the ride home is often nice

1. How are the body and surface waves of an earthquake different?
2. What are the 2 types of body waves?
3. Compare and contrast 2 types of body waves. Please include a sketch of the earth showing how these 2 waves travel through/over our planet.
4. What is a seismometer? Briefly describe how this instrument works. What does a seismometer measure?
5. How are body and surface waves represented on a seismogram?

Assignment #11 (due 4.29)

Using reputable online resources, please research 3 earthquakes which have occurred in the Pacific Northwest since this past Monday (4.22). For each earthquake, please record the following:

1. magnitude (strength on the Richter Scale)
2. location (name of place OR GPS coordinates)
3. date and time of occurrence
4. name of the website from which your information came 

No homework for 4.24!

Please complete the Tectonic Plate ID Map you received in class today. The online map you should use for reference can be found here: https://www.sciencelearn.org.nz/images/350-tectonic-plate-boundaries. Be sure to include the plate names and boundary types (using arrows), as well as color each plate.
